Former Vice President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed suspects the ruling party's scare tactics were aimed at the opposition party.
According to the former VP, the ruling party will not stop on its attempts to intimdate the opposition by exclusively targeting on former Minister of Housing and current deputy leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Dr. Jameel suspects that the entire opposition party will become subjected to the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) scare tactics, while opposition suspects the ruling party may direct their 'attacks' on Dr. Muizzu who is PPM's mayoral candidate for Male' City.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muizzu was summoned to Maldives Police Service premises on Saturday evening.
Though the details of his summoning were not disclosed by PPM, it has been reported the authorities summoned him to question regarding the arbitration case filed by Noomadi Resorts and Residence against Maldives state.
Dr. Jameel suspects the ruling party was attempting to undermine the mayoral campaign progression of Dr. Muizzu.
The former VP claims the state was targeting Dr. Muizzu by exploiting independent commissions in order to eliminate any competition for the upcoming mayoral elections.
Suspecting ruling party of exploiting their political authority to entrap Dr. Muizzu, the former VP tweeted stating the ruling party initiated their slander due to "diminishing popularity."
"Faced with diminishing popularity ahead of council election, Govt initiates witch-hunt against opposition's mayoral candidate @MMuizzu. Summoned to Police after Speaker & MDP took aim at him; attempt to eliminate competitors via dubious allegations," Dr. Jameel claimed.
Dr. Jameel further stated the ruling party will attempt to intimidate all the opposition candidates at the upcoming local council elections.
