The father of the two year old rape victim, has been sentenced a 15 day remand by the Maldives Criminal Court on Saturday, 18 January 2020.
Maldives Police Service confirm the 33 year old local male, the father of the child, was sentenced a 15 day remand upon his summoning to Criminal Court on Saturday.
The local law enforcement authority had arrested the child's father for child negligence.
Meanwhile, the abused child's grandfather and her great grandfather have been remanded for 15 days each, as well.
Maldives Police and Ministry of Gender in a joint statement, claimed the first case was reported at 16:30hrs on Wednesday.
According to Police, the father of the child is being charged with refusal to grant the 2 year old with a safe environment after continued protests by the child's maternal family.
The child's maternal family had continuously voiced she was unsafe at her current environment.
Immediately after the case was reported, the child's father had traveled to Male' and was residing in an apartment at Hulhumale'.
Several angry protestors had gathered in front of the man's residence on Friday afternoon, voicing their anger.
The child's father was arrested by local law enforcement authorities some time in the evening of 17 January, Friday.
Additionally, the 27 protestors who gathered near father's residence have been taken into Police custody for the alleged attempt of initiating a physical altercation.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Gender has claimed case workers and Police were dispatched to the residence of the child following the report.
The child was transferred under the custody the Ministry's case workers on Wednesday evening around 20:45hrs and then transferred to the Regional Hospital around 22:55hrs for medical assessment.
Following the medical assessment, doctors confirmed the child was sexually molested and abused.
