The Naifaru constituency lawmaker of Maldives Parliament has strongly asserted over the innocence of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Lawmaker Ahmed Shiyam through a Tweet called for the unanimous acknowledgement of Criminal Court judges on the former president's innocence.

Shiyam went as far as to note the judges should they fear their creator must acknowledge "President Yameen's innocence as clear as the day."

He also lambasted Criminal Court judges stating they do not reserve the right "to interpret the law and Constitution" while urging the state to cease the "injustice against President Yameen."

Meanwhile former Home Minister Umar Naseer recently bemoaned narrowing options for the opposition to proceed in advocating justice for the now sentenced former head of state.

Moreover, former Economic Minister and Maavashu MP Mohamed Saeed bemoaned the current situation noting the opposition may have exhausted all options to proceed forward while adding the release of Yameen could mean new directives for the movement.

"I cannot fathom President Yameen will be released, if he was released he would definitely take helm in leading us and instruct us on how to proceed ahead," Saeed noted.

The Criminal Court of Maldives found former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom guilty on the count of money laundering and sentenced him to a jail term of five years - a decision met with polarizing discourse within Maldivian community.

Following his sentence, Yameen's sympathizers and followers took to the streets protesting for his immediate release.

However, over state's stronghold on the decision and visible unflinching the opposition's rally went on to drown out in its caliber.
