Supreme Court Judge Husnu Suood has resigned from the top court today.

In his letter of resignation, the former Supreme Court Judge accused the government of intimidating the top court judges.

He said that the government is trying to exert its influence on the court in retaliation to the Court's decision to proceed with the case that relates to the anti-defection changes brought to the Constitution, which the ruling government backed.

Husnu Suood also accused the government of orchestrating the downsizing of the Supreme Court bench through an amendment brought to the Judicature Act and that this, too, was in retaliation to the top Court's decision to hear the case on the anti-defection amendment.

He accused the bill of intimidating all the judges of the Supreme Court and influencing the court to decide the case as requested by the President.

The former judge said that he was resigning in protest of such acts of intimidation.

His resignation came after the Judicial Service Commission JSC suspended him and two other judges on the Supreme Court after the Anti-Corruption Commission brought a case to its attention.
