President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says starting the first quarter of 2026, Maldivians departing abroad via Velaana International Airport would receive USD 1,000.

He said this during his Presidential address to open the parliament for 2025.

President Muizzu said his administration has taken affirmative action to back the depleting dollar market in the country and that these actions have been backed by the law.

The President insisted that these actions would soon be reflected on the government reserve and that the citizens would also be able to enjoy the benefits soo.

These will directly benefit the people and increase prosperity as the law is implemented. The full cooperation of resorts, guesthouses, cityhotels and all businesses required to mark dollars by this Act is essential in the implementation of this Act.

President Muizzu said that Maldivians traveling abroad from Velaana International Airport would be able to get USD 1000 from the 1st Quarter of 2026 onwards.

Now, Maldivians going abroad can only exchange USD 500.

The President further said that the bank card limit can be increased in the 2nd Quarter of 2026.
