National Disaster Management Authority NDMA says it has provided temporary shelter to 22 individuals who were affected by the fire at the warehouse of the shop named Fruit Tree Apple.
NDMA said that it had dispatched its teams to the area to see if there were any individuals requiring humanitarian assistance due to the fire and that 33 individuals from 10 households required assistance.
NDMA said 14 locals and eight foreigners from five households have been provided with temporary shelter and food while one foreign family has moved to their temporary shelter. It added that 11 foreigners were provided shelter by the companies that were employing them.
Maldives National Defence Force MNDF had said that the fire was reported around 04: 20 in the morning and that it took MNDF firefighters nearly 2 hours to completely extinguish the fire.
While no one was injured in the incident, MNDF reported that the warehouse was damaged beyond use and that the fire had also damaged the building next door.
