Health Protection Agency HPA has urged the residents of the greater Male' area to take precautions as the air quality falls to dangerous levels.
A media official from HPA said to 'The Press' that the air quality in the city has become dangerously unclean.
According to the Air Quality Monitoring System in Villimalai, the air quality in the area is currently at 156.
That is a very dangerous level for health, according to the HPA.
The Agency urged the public to take caution when the air is most unclean. HPA advised;
- People with lung diseases, heart diseases, and allergies should not spend too much time outside their homes
- Wearing a mask when going out
- Children, the elderly, and pregnant women should not stay outside for long periods
- Keeping doors closed
- Slow down on outdoor sports and exercise
Air pollution has become common in the Maldives in recent years with unclean air sweeping in from the Bay of Bengal.
