Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says officials have collected biometric data on more than 25,000 foreigners living and working in the Maldives.
The Minister indicated that the data was collected under Operation Kurangi, a program inaugurated to collect the biometric data of all the foreigners working in the Maldives.
Yesterday, the Ministry initiated a major operation of the program, targeting foreigners working in the Greater Male' area. About 75 officials from the Ministry took part in the operation.
Sharing some statistics on the operation, Minister Ihusan said 10 fingerprints and photographs for facial recognition of 1,455 foreign workers were taken and a database was compiled.
Ihusan said the data of 10,000 foreigners had been collected till November 24 last year and more than 15,000 foreigners had been collected in the past two months.
He also said that data had been collected for 25,483 foreigners living in the country and that the Ministry anticipates that bio metric data for all the foreigners living in the Maldives would be collected by April 2027.
