The Foreign Ministry confirmed that one of its staff members studying abroad in Japan passed away
Lujaina Naseem,29, was found unconscious in her room, two days after her family last contacted her.
The Ministry said that Lujaina joined the Ministry in December 2021. The Ministry said that she was studying for a Master's of Arts in International Relations in Japan on a scholarship when she passed away.
It described Lujaina as a diligent, kind, and empathetic colleague and an asset to the Ministry. It said that the deceased was a friend to all and that she had a bright future at the Ministry.
Lujaina died after completing her studies and preparing to come back home.
Authorities are working to bring her body back for funeral rites here in the Maldives.
