Police have confirmed that a local teacher who was accused of grooming one of his students has been released from their custody.

Police said today that when the suspect was taken to his remand hearing, the court released him from police custody under certain conditions. They did not give the details of the court's conditions.

Police had said that they had completed the investigation into the case and forwarded it to the Prosecutor General's Office on the 25th of last month.

The case was reported to the Police on the 17th of October. Police said the male teacher from a school in one of the central Atolls had been accused of speaking inappropriately to students and grooming them.

They also said the 29-year-old teacher was arrested on October 27 under a court order. The local suspect was initially remanded in custody for 20 days.

The suspect was then given an additional 30 days in remand custody.
