President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is set to commence practical work on Naagoashi, with full support from the Administration, to expand tourism in South Thiladhunmathi Atoll.

Speaking to residents of Naivaadhoo, President Dr Muizzu highlighted that the Naagoashi initiative is a long-awaited project that had been on hold for several years. He confirmed that the requisite materials for the project commencement have now been mobilised through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Maldives.

He underscored his Administration’s commitment, stating that South Thiladhunmathi, previously an underserved tourism region, will now be developed into a thriving destination. He further highlighted that several lagoons in the region have already been allocated for tourism development, with regulatory flexibilities introduced to encourage investment.

Addressing key infrastructural priorities for Naivaadhoo, the President assured residents that the harbour project will be completed in line with community expectations. He further stated that the island’s health centre will be upgraded to include laboratory services in the upcoming national budget and confirmed that an ambulance will be provided ahead of schedule.

In addition, the President announced plans for road development and the construction of a modern football field to meet the recreational needs of the community. He also confirmed that a new generator will be procured to resolve existing power supply issues.
