Health Protection Agency HPA has urged caution as the air surrounding the Maldives becomes unclean due to the weather systems in the Bay of Bengal.
HPA said the IQA app shows the worst air pollution in Villimale. Villimale's Air Pollution score is a staggering 94, while Male recorded a value of 82. The air pollution score in Shaviyani Funadhoo is 55.
The Agency urged the public to take caution when the air is most unclean. HPA advised;
- People with lung diseases, heart diseases, and allergies should not spend too much time outside their homes
- Wearing a mask when going out
- Children, the elderly, and pregnant women should not stay outside for long periods
- Keeping doors closed
- Slow down on outdoor sports and exercise
HPA said that any air pollution score above 50 would be detrimental to health, especially for people with existing conditions.
