President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says the administration will submit revisions to the current Drugs Act this week to ramp up its fight against the drug epidemic.
In a post on X, President Muizzu said one of the biggest challenges facing the efforts of the state agencies to save the country from the drug epidemic is the shortcomings of the current Drugs Act.
He said that the government will review the Drugs Act in consultation with the relevant state agencies and present the necessary amendments to the Act in Parliament this week.
The President said this review aimed to eliminate the challenges in investigating and prosecuting drug cases.
President Muizzu also said that the Government will introduce the newly formulated Gang Crimes Prohibition Bill in Parliament within the next two weeks to replace the existing Gang Crimes Prohibition Act to protect the country from gang crimes that are closely linked to drugs.
He thanked the people for their cooperation in solving such major issues facing the country.
