India and the Maldives have launched India's RuPay card in the Maldives.

The card was launched after the official talks held between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who is undertaking his first state visit to the island nation's closest ally in South Asia.

RuPay is an Indian multinational financial services and payment service system, conceived and owned by the National Payments Corporation of India.

It was launched in 2012, to fulfill the Reserve Bank of India's vision of establishing a domestic, open, and multilateral system of payments.

The RuPay card can be used on BML ATMs, POS machines, and other digital channels. It would make financial transactions much easier for Indian nationals residing in the Maldives as well as locals living abroad in India.
