President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the Google Office in New York, where he was welcomed by Google Public Sector CEO Karen Dahut.

Following a tour of the office, he met with the Google team and discussed areas for collaboration regarding the integration of AI in public service delivery, promotion of digital literacy, and data-driven solutions for climate resilience.

The President arrived in New York to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

During his trip, the President addressed the United Nations Security Council and became the first Maldivian President to address the Security Council in the 59 years since the country became a UN member.

In his speech, the President called for significant reforms to the Council's structure, calling for the abolition of the veto power held by its permanent members.

Speaking on the ongoing conflicts, President Dr Muizzu emphasized the "genocide unfolding under the nose of a Security Council unwilling to uphold international law."

The President described the veto power as a barrier to effective decision-making, adding that the veto paralyzed the Council from stopping Israel’s genocidal war in Palestine, allowed Israel to continue with impunity its brutal occupation, and enabled the massacre of innocent people.
