Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says even the government should not undermine the people's trust in the national bank, Bank of Maldives BML.
His post on X came as the government tried to appoint cabinet secretary at the President's Office Ahmed Ali Habeeb as the new chairperson of BML.
The former President said the Bank of Maldives is connected to the lives of many people and businessmen. It is always a place where everyone has full confidence.
He went on to say that even the government should not do anything to undermine the trust in BML.
BML is currently undergoing a period of change as its CEO Karl Stumke resigned on the 8th of this month and several of its board members have either been dismissed or have resigned from their posts.
The Bank has scheduled an Extra ordinary General meeting to appoint board members and a CEO to the bank.
