Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will travel to India on an official trip soon.

At a press conference today, Heena said the President will travel to India soon and discussions were now ongoing about an appropriate date for the official trip.

She did not give any other information about the trip.

President Muizzu traveled to India back in June for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration as many leaders from Asia visited India for the inauguration.

This was the President's first trip to India after taking office back in November.

The relationship between India and the Maldives soured during the first few months of the President's tenure after the new government insisted that India withdraw its troops from Maldivian soil.

But the relationship between the two countries has been improving with the Foreign Minister of India recently undertaking a trip to the Maldives.
