The Chief Operating Officer of the Bank of Maldives BML Karl Stumke has resigned from his post.
The Bank said in a statement that Stumke has submitted his resignation as Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Maldives effective September 2024.
It also said that he will remain as CEO until the Bank’s EGM scheduled on 21st September 2024. BML said that the Deputy CEO Aishath Noordeen will be taking charge of the Bank during the recruitment process of the CEO.
It added that the Bank's Board of Directors will commence the recruitment process to search for a replacement.
Stumke's resignation came amid the deep scrutiny of the bank and its operations following allegations made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu that his opponents had been attempting a coup against his government with the bank at the core of the events.
The allegations came a day after the Bank announced that it would limit all foreign transactions on its debit cards and that would only allow minimal transactions on its credit cards.
The move was set to leave hundreds of local students studying abroad stranded without access to their funds. But MMA intervened to reserve the BML's decision.
