Police have launched an investigation into a drug case involving a nurse from the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH in Male'.

They said that the nurse from IGMH had been accused of using drugs and that the hospital itself filed the case.

Police further said that no one has been arrested in the case. They did not give any more information about the case or the suspect.

The hospital has yet to publicly state about the nurse and the incidents that prompted them to file a complaint with the Police.

This administration is intensifying the war on drugs with the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology compiling an amendment to the Drugs Act to include articles that call for the death penalty to those who smuggle drugs into the country.

This is the first time the death penalty has been recommended for drugs-related crimes in the Maldives and the Ministry is working to submit the amendment to the Attorney General's office soon.
