Today, an emergency motion was submitted to Parliament urging Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim to rectify the power outage plaguing Addu City.

The MP for Hithadhoo South Constituency and MDP PG Leader Ibrahim Nazil submitted the emergency motion to the parliament.

MP Nazil said that the government has neglected to provide electricity services to connected neighborhoods in the Southern city and that this has disrupted the lives of the residents.

Nazil said the city is experiencing power outages despite providing the most basic electricity services to the city. He further said that Schools and offices in the city are not providing the necessary services and valuable equipment is being damaged.

He further said that the government has failed to provide an effective solution to the power outages and has not provided the spare parts required to repair the generators.

The MP called on the Environment Minister to find a permanent solution to the power outages in Addu City.

All 57 MPs who took part in the vote, voted to accept the emergency motion for debate.
