Voting is underway in the by-election being held to elect council members and women's development Committee members in Male' and some islands.
The Elections Commission confirmed that voting began at 08:00 am and that voting would continue till 04:00 pm.
The by-election is being held today to elect presidents of two councils, councilors of two cities and islands, and members of the women's development committee of two islands. This include;
- Lhaviyani Atoll Council President
- Faafu Bilehdhoo Council President
- Councillor for Kulhudhufushi North Constituency
- Raa Hulhudhufaaru Councillor
- Raa Rasmaadhoo woman Councillor
- Hulhumale' Councillor
- Councillor for West Henveiru Constituency
- Councillor for Central Mahchangoalhi constituency
The Elections Commission said that 13,112 voters are eligible to vote in today's by-election which includes 6,409 female voters and 6703 male voters.
It further said that up until 02:00 pm, only 17.96 percent of the eligible voters had cast their votes. The Commission clarified that only 2,355 voters have cast their votes and that 10,757 are yet to vote.
