An emergency motion has been submitted to the Parliament calling on the government to offer clarification on why domestic electricity bills have been unusually high in the last few months.

The emergency motion, submitted by the MP for Galolhu North Constituency MP Mohammed Ibrahim, said the public had expressed concern over receiving their electricity bills for April last year, submitted complaints to Stelco and Fenaka, and shared their complaints on social media.

The MP said that Stelco has eased the bills due to the increase in public concerns but the public is complaining about the high electricity bills for the readings taken in recent months. He added that the public does not understand the reason behind the high electricity bills.

MP Mohamed called on the government to explain the reason for the increase in electricity bills and find a solution to the difficulties faced by the people due to the increase in electricity bills.

All of the MPs who took part in the vote to accept the motion voted in favor of the motion that highlights an issue close to the public.

Many had taken to social media to complain and express concerns over the high electricity bills for the last few months.
