President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has recommended appointing the former Vice President of the Elections Commission Ismail Habeeb as the newest member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives HRCM to parliament.
HRCM is short of one member after its former Vice President Dr. Ahmed Adhuham Abdullah resigned last October.
At the beginning of today's parliament session, Secretary General of the Parliament Fathimath Niusha read the letter from the President indicating his recommendation to appoint Habeeb to HRCM.
The letter also stated that other candidates have put forth their names for the vacancy on HRCM and that the President recommended Habeeb for the post. The letter also noted that the names of the other candidates have been disclosed with the letter.
The Speaker announced that the names have been forwarded to the Human Rights Commission for further deliberation.
Habeeb, who served as the Vice-President and Spokesperson of the Election Commission resigned from the commission after 21 years last March. Habeeb resigned from the Election Commission after his term expired.
