The Elections Commission says only the ruling PNC and the main opposition party MDP would compete for the vacant seats on the Male' City Council.
The By-elections next month would elect Council members of Mahchangoalhi Central Constituency, Henveriu West Constituency, and Hulhumale' Constituency of the Male' City Council.

These seats on the Male' City Council became vacant after the Councillors filling the seats competed and won seats in the Parliamentary election held earlier this year.
The former Councilor of Henveriu West Constituency of the Male' City Council Ahmed Aifan is now the MP for Henveriu North Constituency and the former Councilor for Mahchangoalhi Central Constituency of the Male' City Council Moosa Zameer now represents the same Constituency in the Parliament.
The former Councilor of Hulhumale' Constituency of the Male City Council Ibrahim Shujau is now the MP for Baarashu Constituency.
