The Parliamentary Group of Majority seat holder PNC says there are no hurdles for the government to issue land plots despite rejecting a bill passed by the 19th Parliament urging the government to release the land plots within 3 months.

The 19th Parliament passed the Ninth Amendment Bill to the Maldives Land Act in April of this year and sent it to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for ratification.

However, President Muizzu sent the bill back to the Parliament for reconsideration. His request was read at the Parliament today after which MP for Galolhu South Constituency Meekail Naseem, who originally proposed the bill, proposed to resend the bill to the Parliament's Committee on National Development And Heritage.

But, only 12 MPs backed this proposal while 75 others voted against further action on the bill. The Chair of the session then went on to put the bill to a vote without bringing any changes to the bill.

Out of the 89 MPs who took part in the vote, only 12 voted for the bill while 76 rejected the bill. After this, the bill was thrown out of the parliament. The PNC met with media members to clarify their stand on the matter and the PNC PG Leader MP for Inguraidhoo Constituency Ibrahim Falah said there are many overlapping matters in the rejected bill with mitigating factors.

MP Falah further said that to find adequate solutions to these issues, the government has already submitted a new land bill that would safeguard any land plots or flats promised to the citizens under any administration.

Noting that finding a housing solution is a key pledge of President Muizzu, Falah assured that the Parliament would work to fulfill the President's pledges as they are.
