Police have confirmed that a local is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit ICU after swallowing several drug bullets.
They said that the individual was a local man.
Police clarified that the man was rushed to the hospital after his condition deteriorated after he was stopped by police officers on patrol in Male'. They said that he was stopped because of suspicious activity.
Though the police did not mention when the suspect was taken to the hospital, Police did confirm that the individual is being treated at the ICU in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Police added the person's family had been notified and that they were further investigating the case.
Swallowing bullets or pellets of drugs is a common but dangerous method for drug traffickers to smuggle drugs.
Drug traffickers use individuals popularly known as 'drug mules', the victims are made to swallow balloons containing illicit drugs and are then transported across borders and inside countries.
