Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel said when this administration came into power, projects worth MVR 2 billion were stalled, and the project budget was limited.
Answering questions from MPs at the parliament today, Minister Khaleel said that when the current administration took over, health center and hospital development projects were stalled. This government has managed to resume some projects after talks with contractors.
Minister Khaleel noted that the main point of contention was the large number of projects, the value of which reached more than MVR 2 billion.
He further said only MVR 380 million has been allocated to health ministry projects. The Minister said that the budgeted value is considerably limited compared to the projects and that it would be difficult to make payments in advance.
The Minister explained that one reason projects are stalled is assigning them to a contractor before funding is secured, even if the funding is provided by a foreign investor.
