The Elections Commission says more than 11,000 individuals submitted re-registration forms after the Commission was forced to postpone the Parliamentary Elections initially set for today to next month.

The Commission was forced to postpone the elections after the parliament approved an amendment to the Elections Act, which stated that future elections cannot be held during Ramadan. The Commission only announced the new election date after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu ratified the bill.

The new election date is April 21st, and the Commission accepted re-registration forms from the 10th of this month until yesterday.

The Commission said that 11,169 individuals have submitted re-registration forms within this period. It said that 10,028 forms have been processed, and 1,141 forms have been rejected for various reasons.

As the election date has been changed, the Commission has decided to increase the number of ballot boxes for the election. It confirmed that it would place ballot boxes in 30 more resorts, one more industrial island, and four more ballot boxes abroad.
