Police have arrested 10 individuals aboard a launch from Meemu Atoll Mulak for the use and possession of Narcotics.
They said that they conducted an anti-narcotics operation on the 4th of this month based on an intelligence tip and arrested 10 individuals. Police confirmed that they were arrested in open waters off the uninhabited island of Meemu Hakurahura.
Police said that the operation was carried out in a collected effort between Mulee Police Station, Kolhufushi Police Station, and Police intelligence. They said that in the operation the individuals were apprehended and that their persons as well as the launch that they were traveling in were searched.
Police said that in the search they discovered 15 pieces wrapped in cellophane alleged to be narcotics as well as 35 bottles of alcohol.
They also said another individual was arrested for preventing the police from performing their duties. The suspects' ages range from 22 years to 33 years.
The Mulee Magistrate Court chose to free some of the suspects with conditions to attend court hearings while some were kept in remand custody for three to five days.
Police are still investigating the matter.
