The Elections Commission says apart from the cities, the highest number of candidates are competing for the Naifaru and Thulhaadhoo seats of the Parliament in the upcoming elections.

The Elections Commission assigned candidate numbers to the more than 350 candidates and released information about the candidates. It said that the highest number of candidates are competing for Maafannu Central Constituency with 8 candidates vying for the seats.

The Commission said that 7 candidates are competing for the Addu City Hithadhoo North parliament seat. Apart from the cities, the highest number of candidates are competing for the parliament seat of Naifaru Constituency and the seat for Thulhaadhoo Constituency.

The electoral watchdog said that a total of 381 submitted candidacy application forms for the Parliamentary elections and that the Commission accepted the forms from 368 individuals.

The Commission said another 4 individuals took back their names from the ballot.

Newly formed Democrats have the highest number of female candidates. The Commission said that out of the 39 candidates the party has fielded for the elections, 13 are women. While MDP has fielded 6 candidates, PNC that represents the current administration has only fielded 2 female candidates.
