The Elections Commission has announced that it won't be placing ballot boxes in 5 countries including India for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

In an announcement today, the Commission said that it had opened re-registration for voters residing abroad as well as in resorts and industrial islands in the country. It said that re-registration numbers from several of these locations did not meet the ceiling set by the Commission and that it had decided against setting up ballot boxes at these locations.

The locations include 17 resorts, 2 industrial islands, and four countries.

The Commission said that it won't be placing ballot boxes in India (Trivandrum), Thailand (Bangkok), the UK (London), and the UAE (Dubai) because of the lack of voters who re-registered at these countries. It urged locals living in these cities to submit re-registration applications before the deadline set for 04:00 p.m. tomorrow and that if they do not re-register, they can only vote at their permanent registration locations.

For this Parliamentary Election, ballot boxes would only be placed in 2 countries and they are Sri Lanka and Malaysia where many Maldivians reside for studies and other purposes.

Meanwhile, the Elections Commission clarified that locals who re-registered at the canceled locations can re-submit their forms before the re-registration deadline.
