The Parliament session to approve the cabinet of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu scheduled for this morning has been postponed to this afternoon.
This comes after multiple attempts by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam to put the matter to a vote at the extraordinary session held yesterday.
But MPs supporting the government thwarted him on several occasions and finally the Parliament session was concluded as the chamber was in disarray.
Scenes of violence also unfolded in the legislative house yesterday as MPs from MDP and PNC clashed near the seat of the Speaker. MP for Kanditheem Constituency Abdullah Shameem Abdul Hakeem required treatment at the hospital after he sustained head wounds.
Today, the session was originally scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. but has now been postponed to 1:00 p.m.
The Parliament Secretariat did not reveal why it had postponed the session.
