The High Commission of India in Maldives organised the screening of two acclaimed Indian films, Halahal and Thondimuthalum Dhriksakshiyum, on August 19 and 20 in Hulhumale’ as part of the ongoing Indian Film Festival 2025 and India Week celebrations.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from film lovers in the Maldives, highlighting the deep cultural links between the two countries. Indian cinema, widely appreciated across the Maldives, has long been a bridge connecting people through stories, music, and shared traditions.

The screenings are part of India Week, a series of events showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage, contemporary creativity, and close people-to-people bonds with the Maldives. By bringing Indian films to Maldivian audiences, the initiative also underscores India’s commitment to nurturing cultural exchanges alongside its strong development partnership with the island nation.

India and Maldives share a special relationship rooted in history, geography, and mutual trust. India has been one of Maldives’ most steadfast partners, extending support in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, and disaster relief. Beyond strategic and developmental cooperation, cultural diplomacy—through festivals, arts, and cinema—has remained central in strengthening the friendship between the two nations.

The High Commission noted that initiatives like the Indian Film Festival provide Maldivians with an opportunity to experience the diversity of Indian storytelling while celebrating the enduring friendship between the two neighbours.

The Indian Film Festival 2025 will continue with more screenings and cultural events under the banner of India Week, reinforcing the message that the India–Maldives partnership extends beyond diplomacy into the realms of culture, community, and shared aspirations.
