Maldives Democratic Party MDP has decided to hold its primary to elect its candidates that would compete in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections on the 3rd of February.

MDP's primary would see it elect candidates for 43 constituencies of the Parliament with internal campaigning now underway in all the constituencies.

For the rest of the constituencies, the Party would not be holding a primary as only one candidate put forth their name to compete in the Parliamentary election.

The Elections Commission announced last week that it would hold the Parliamentary election on the 17th of March which also falls on the 6th of Ramadan.

The Electoral Watchdog said that it would open the application for candidacy on the 30th of this month and it would be open till the 14th of next month.

It said that a total of 284,337 voters are eligible for the Parliamentary elections including 139.165 women and 145,162 men who are the age of 18 and above by March 17th.
