Police have decided to take several actions to deter the trafficking of drugs and alcohol in the Maldives as well as the traffic congestion issue in the capital Male'.

The actions were decided at a meeting held by the Commission of Police Ali Shujau with the heads of the Central Policing Command, Operations Support Command, and Drug Enforcement Department.

In the meeting, it was decided that the Drug Enforcement Department and Marine police would join forces to patrol the Hulhumale' Lagoon 24 hours a day without stopping.

The top officers of the departments also decided to further strengthen the search process of vessels that travel to and from islands and the goods that they transport back and forth between Male' and the islands.

As for traffic congestion in Male', the Police decided to increase the number of patrol officers in the capital to further ease the traffic flow in the crowded city.

The Police also decided to manage the traffic in areas near schools, hospitals, and other areas where the public gathers.
