The Health Ministry has agreed with Dharumavantha Hospital to begin sea ambulance services between Male' and Villimale'.
At a ceremony held in Villimale' earlier today, Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Haleel signed the agreement on behalf of the government. CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem signed the agreement on behalf of the hospital which oversees the operations at Villimale' Hospital.
Speaking at the Ceremony, CEO Haleem said that the sea ambulance would be docked at the Villimale' Habor. He further said that the service would be operated by the management of IGMH and Villimale' Hospital.
Haleem said that the government is giving special attention to strengthening the services of Villimale' hospital as the facility is unable to provide adequate services to the people.
The CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital further said that work to enhance the services of the hospital was already underway and the sea ambulance services were inaugurated to make it easier for those seeking the hospital's services.
Speaking at the ceremony, Health Minister Haleel said that on his first visit to the hospital in Villimale', one of the first complaints he received was the difficulty in transferring patients to Male' and that the services inaugurated today would ease these difficulties.
The Health Minister detailed that the sea ambulance that would be used between Male' and Villimale' would be more spacious than the usual motorboats used in the Maldives.
He said that to further the service, the vessel needed more medical equipment and that the installation would begin soon.
