Kulhudhufushi Regional Hospital KRH says it would host a Filariasis screening and awareness session for Indian migrants living in the Northern city of Kulhudhufushi.

The Hospital said that the session would be held tonight at 08:00 p.m. at the Haa Dhaalu Atoll Education Center Hall. It said that the session would be carried out in Hindi/Urdu.

The Hospital said that the session is open for migrants to join if they are native speakers or can understand the language.

KRH urged the migrants who wished to take part in the session to bring their work permit or ID card copies for identification purposes.

The session comes amid a potential Filariasis outbreak in the Northern City after an-initial 17 foreigners tested positive for the disease that has been eradicated from the Maldives back in 2016.

The 17 cases surfaced during an-AIDS screening camp in Kulhudhufushi and screening among migrant workers revealed another two positive cases, taking the total to 19.

HPA said yesterday that so far 295 foreigners have been screened for the disease and that the 19 individuals who tested positive so no active symptoms of Filariais. It further said that regardless of this treatment is under for them.
