The Hulhumale' Magistrate Court has extended the remand custody of the driver of a car that was involved in a fatal accident last Monday.
On Monday night around 7:40 p.m. in the evening, a car crashed into three cycles on the road near Central Park in Hulhumale'.
The crash injured four individuals and both of the victims sustained serious injuries.
Police arrested the driver of the car on the same night and identified the driver as a 30-year-old local man. Police said that the Hulhumale' magistrate court had initially sentenced him to 7 days in remand custody.
They said that the seven days were up yesterday and when the suspect was taken before the Magistrate Court in Hulhumale', the Court gave an additional seven days for the suspect.
The extension of the remand custody for the suspect came as one of the victims of the accident succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
The victim had been fighting for his life in the ICU of ADK hospital but lost the fight yesterday. The victim had been identified as Ismail Waheed.
His wife, Aishath Manikufaanu, also sustained serious injuries and remains in the ICU of ADK hospital. The Hospital said that her condition remains critical too.
