Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has voiced concern that many MPs who enter the Parliament premises don't join the session as yet another session at the parliament was abandoned due to the lack of quorum today.

Nasheed announced yesterday that the parliament would be looking to kick off the legislative work to back the public referendum on the system change scheduled for next month by passing an information sheet on the vote as well as the wording on the ballot paper for the vote today.

But the parliament was unable to hold its session today as it was two MPs short of reaching a quorum for the session. The 87-MP parliament needs a quorum of 22 MPs to hold sessions.

Speaking at the abandoned session today, Nasheed said that as this is the last week of campaigning ahead of the second round of the Presidential election it is understandable that many MPs might be tied in campaigning.

He said that being involved in campaigning can also be considered as doing legislative work.

But Nasheed voiced concern over the MPs who appear to enter the premises of the Parliament building and then refuse to join the session.

Nasheed waited for 10 minutes for the MPs to take their seats in the chamber but then proceeded to conclude the session.

Nasheed said that tomorrow's session can happen after talks with the majority party MDP and only if the MPs attend the session and this has cast doubt over whether there would be a session tomorrow.
