Maldives National Defense Force MNDF clarifies that the helicopter under the MNDF Southern Area Command operated over Gan of Addu city in the night time as part of a training exercise.
MNDF denied social media reports that said that the helicopters were being operated in an unusual manner during nighttime over Gan.
It said that operating helicopters during the nighttime was a safety concern but these exercises are conducted regularly to ensure the operational readiness of the helicopters and also to make sure that the pilots are fully trained to operate the choppers in the nighttime in such a case.
MNDF explained that under a set schedule helicopters stationed at different commands across the country would be operated during the day and night.
It assured that the helicopters stationed at Gan were operated last night under the same schedule and that this was a sanctioned test flight with permission from MNDF under its Southern Area Command.
