The Elections Commission says more than 47 percent of the eligible voters for the ongoing Presidential Election have cast their vote by 1 p.m. this afternoon.
It said that by 1 p.m. this afternoon a total of 135,422 voters have cast their vote. The Commission said that this includes 69,261 male voters and 66,161 female voters.
It also said that this amounts to 47.9 percent of the eligible voters.
The Commission further said that at 1:00 p.m. a total of 146,973 voters are yet to cast their ballots.
A total of 282,395 people are eligible to vote in this election and the Elections Commission confirms that there are 20,270 new voters in this election.
Voting for the Election began at 08:00 a.m. today and is set to end at 04:00 p.m. this evening.
The Commission had said earlier that if there were no voters in the polling queue by 04:00 p.m., the officials at the electoral centers would close the voting center.
The Commission added that ballot counting is expected to begin at 04:30 p.m.
