Elections Commission says more than 36,000 people have cast their votes in the first two hours of voting in the Presidential Election being held today.
Voting began at 08:00 a.m. today across the country and some countries abroad where ballot boxes have been placed.
The Commission said at 10:00 am today, a total of 36,163 people have cast their votes in the election. It said that this included 22,403 male voters and 13,760 female voters.
It said that 36,163 voters make up 12.81 percent of the eligible voter population and that 246,232 voters are yet to cast their ballots in the election today.
A total of 282,395 people are eligible to vote in this election and the Elections Commission confirms that there are 20,270 new voters in this election.
Voting is expected to continue till 04:00 pm.
