Health Ministry signs agreements with a Chinese developer to build two tertiary hospitals in the country.

The 100-bed hospitals would be built in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi and Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

The Ministry said that the agreements were signed with the Chinese Company China National Electric Company.

The Company is contractually obligated to finish the projects in 30 months and the projects are worth USD 38 million.

At a ceremony held today, Senior Executive at the Ministry Hannan Hussain signed on behalf of the government while the Vice President of the China National Electric Company signed on its behalf.

Kulhudhufushi and Thinadhoo already have two hospitals and the government has also further developed these facilities.

However, the government plans to build the new tertiary hospitals on separate land plots from the existing hospitals.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to build tertiary hospitals in five regions of the country. This includes hospitals in Kulhudhufushi and Thinadhoo as well as ones in Raa Ungoofaaru, Laamu Gan and Addu City Hithadhoo.
