Health Protection Agency, HPA, has confirmed two cases of measles from the Greater Male' Area.
HPA said that this week, two individuals tested positive for measles in the capital city. The agency did not provide any further information about the individuals who contracted the illness, which has been eradicated from the Maldives.
The Agency said that it had already launched an investigation into how the individuals contracted the disease and had also begun contact tracing.
HPA said that the agency will vaccinate the contacts against the illness once they have been identified.
The Health Protection Agency said that so far this year, 5 people have tested positive for measles in the Maldives. It said that two of these individuals contracted the disease from abroad.
HPA said that measles was spreading across the world, including the neighbouring countries in the last few months
It advised any individual presenting symptoms such as fever and redness on the skin to seek medical attention immediately.
