The Parliamentary Group of the ruling PNC has begun the process of removing MP Ahmed Nazim as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

Local media have reported that PNC MPs have gathered enough signatures to impeach the Deputy Speaker. At least 24 MPs are needed to move a resolution to impeach the Vice-President of Parliament.

Out of the 93 sitting MPs, 76 are from the ruling PNC.

Only Parliamentarians who attend the session to impeach Nazim can participate in the vote.

This comes amid a rift between Nazim and the PNC leadership. It was also reported that he had been removed from the official WatsApp group of the PNC Parliamentary group.
