Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed cuts short today's parliamentary session after saying that the parliamentarians present at the session did not allow him to continue with the session.
This is the first session of the last term for the calendar year.
The session was cut short after the floor of the parliament erupted into chaos after Speaker Nasheed decided that the compilation of the Parliamentary standing committees would be postponed till the administrative procedures are in place to allow MPs from 'The Democrats' to be appointed to the Committees.
Nasheed said that only 3 MPs have sent letters of notification to the Parliament secretariate after joining the Democrats and that he would allow other MPs to send their letters to the Secretariate.
This caused MDP MPs to protest in outrage and before the Speaker halted the session temporarily he called out the names of three MPs asking them to leave the chamber.
These three MPs include the MP for Kelaa Constituency Ibrahim Shareef, the MP for Dhandhoo Yaqoob Abdullah as well as the name of the MP for Thinadhoo Constituency Abdul Mughnee.
But the MPs refused to leave the chambers which delayed the restart of the session. The Speaker once again asked the MPs to leave the chamber peacefully and went on to say that he would not allow security forces into the chamber.
At this point, the MP for Villimale Constituency Ahmed Usham took a point of order to note that Article 65 of the Parliament regulations allowed the Speaker to decide that the MPs who refused to leave the chamber after their names have been called are not in attendance and can continue with the session.
Then the MP for Hanimaadhoo Constituency Abdul Ghafoor Moosa joined MP Shareef at the seats set for Ministers who are summoned to the parliament and refused to leave the chamber when the Speaker called out his name as well.
Speaker Nasheed then cut short the session saying that the MPs were not allowing him to continue.
