Distinguished Islamic Scholar Sheikh Usman Abdullah passes away.
The veteran Scholar, who made vital contributions to the field of Islamic Studies and to the noble work of spreading the knowledge of Islam, passed away in the early hours of this morning.
He was 85 years old.
Educated from the Islamic University of Medinah in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Usman spent many years spreading the knowledge of Islam in the country and up until recently appeared on TV programs and went on radio shows to further his work as an Islamic Scholar.
Sheikh Usman, who was born in Shaviyani Maroshi, also took on several posts at the Islamic Ministry.
He was conferred the National Award of Honor for his contributions to raising religious awareness and Islamic education back in 2012.
Many on social media sites are expressing their sorrow at his passing and also acknowledging his contributions in service to the country.
