Political activist and veteran journalist Aishath Aniya passes away after her battle with cancer.
She passed away while getting treatment for cancer in a hospital in the Indian City of Bangalore.
Aniya played a huge part in the reform movement back in the early 2000s which saw the country move to a multi-party system of governance.
She worked as a journalist in Minivan News (later known as Maldives Independent) and Minivan Radio which host many guests that supported the reform movement.
The late activist rallied for many issues within the society and in recent times used the social media site Clubhouse to speak about current affairs in the country.
Aniya was also very active in the ruling MDP and was the party's Secretary General for sometime and also ran for several electoral posts in the party.
