Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says the government should make arrangements to award land plots from dry land instead of lagoons under its 'Binveria' Housing Scheme.
The government announced earlier this week that a total of 19,631 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the ‘Binveriyaa’ Housing Scheme, with 18,948 to receive one of the currently available 9,003 land plots.
The Housing Ministry began land allotments to plot recipients at publically held draws starting last Tuesday with many getting land plots of Gulhfeefalhu as well as the Giraavarufalhu, which is yet being dredged.
Speaking on this matter via Twitter, Nasheed said that those who received land plots from lands that are yet to be reclaimed should be given plots from dry land in the Greater Male' Area.
Nasheed further said that the dredging of the Giraavaru Lagoon needs to be planned and that its completion is yet very far.
But the government has already begun dredging the lagoons of Gulheefalhu and Giraavaru to allocate land plots for Male' residents.
