President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's campaign office decides to postpone his trip to Fuvuhmulah to tomorrow amid a surge of viral flu in the capital Male'.
The President was initially scheduled to leave for the Southern city today for his two-day campaign trip to the region.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Miuvaan said that the trip was postponed upon the instructions of the President's campaign office and did not reveal any other details about the delay.
MDP Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed and Spokesperson Anas Abdul Sattar were unavailable for comment about the trip.
With the President delaying his trip to Fuvahmulah, the big rally planned for tonight is now expected to be held tomorrow night. Though yet unconfirmed, it is believed that the President would announce his running mate at this rally.
The trip was postponed as the capital try to cope with the sudden surge of flu cases in the city since Thursday night and also with bad weather in the southern atolls.
